Web design and maintenance

The brief

I specialise in information and 'brochure' websites for the small to medium business. My aim is to create a reliable and attractive site with clean simple coding. Simple doesn't mean dull: you'll get a fresh and original design tailored to your company's colours and logos.

Price

Obviously the price will depend on an individual quote for your requirements. Factors include whether you need a domain and hosting (i.e. where the site lives); complexity of artwork; costing for ongoing support (such as regular catalogue updates); and what level of site support you need.

Startup work

My basic fee for work on a simple website of 4-5 pages is £250, which includes includes coding, scanning, photos and artwork, as well as the first year's support (which also covers minor site changes). Smaller or larger sites will be quoted pro rata.

Extras

• Domain/hosting, if required: depends on the domain name (e.g. .co.uk / .com etc) and hosting requirements. I'll quote, but £50 a yearis typical.
• Regular work to site (e.g. weekly updates): I'll quote, based on £25 per hour.
• General support / updates / site changes (e.g. new graphics or photos, major text alterations, etc): £25 per hour, quoted in advance. I don't charge for trivial changes (e.g. at the level of, say, altering a telephone number).

Terms

I charge 50% of the quoted fee when you accept the preliminary design, and the remainder when the site is complete and ready to go live. The work will be covered by a simple contract: primarily an agreement to the above payment schedule, to client confidentiality, and to the right of either party to terminate the contract without penalty.

Scope of my work

I provide a design service catering for everything from a full site with domain/hosting to minor work such as copy-edting an existing site. I can take any photographs required, and can deal with sound and video if you provide them - but I don't have recording facilities. Sorry, but I don't do Flash programming, database work, or e-commerce.

I believe I can offer you a friendly and un-geeky design service that will start up a website up inexpensively with a minimum of complication. I have been involved with computing and the Internet for over 15 years, both as a hobbyist and computing journalist, and can bring that experience to finding the best solution to what you need from a website.
